The best untapped use case for Perplexity — Travel
I just got back from 14 days in Japan with my husband and 2 kids. We had a goal to do AS MUCH as we possibly could — try every food, go down every side street, live like a local. I had been researching the neighborhoods and booking experiences for months. But when we got there, boots on the ground, it was perplexity that got us into all the hidden gems.
But when we got there, boots on the ground, it was perplexity that got us into all the hidden gems.
Here are just a few examples of real search queries I ran, while trying to quickly get from point A to point B, or make the most of a precious 30-minute window between booked activities:
You can see from the variety of these earnest, and chronological 15 queries, that I was using perplexity in real time for these types of queries:
- Finding activities with exact location, time and commute constraints
- As a tour guide — tell me the significance of what’s right in front of me
- Cultural immersion — explain customs and language to me
- To enrich every activity — get the most out of the activities you booked
- Details on logistics — Japan restaurants and activities have very specific protocol.
- Technical travel help — how to get wifi or get my technology working!
I’m a huge fan of Perplexity Search so wanted to share this untapped use case. Nothing beats a local guide — we had plenty of those too, who were priceless, but perplexity even enriched our experiences with the local guides, seeding them with ideas and then the guides could unlock the experiences by knowing the language and customs.
